Known Issues and Workarounds
The following are some known issues with Oracle 10g, and possible solutions.
For help with synchronizing contacts between Email and Calendar, click here.
Problem:
When attempting to search for a name from the Corporate Directory in the Web Access Client (WAC) name search box using the format of "Firstname Lastname", no entries are returned.
Resolution or Workaround:
To locate a name, put first and last name into the TO: field, click on the check names feature (not the flashlight) or enter only the Lastname with the search criteria of ALL or LASTNAME selected.
Problem:
Empty or Missing Data from Migrated Contacts.
Resolution or Workaround:
See the Migration of Contacts and Distribution Lists from OCS 9i to 10g.
Problem:
Unable to take ANY action in the Email Web Client.
Resolution or Workaround:
Clear the browser cache (temporary files and cookies), close and reopen the browser. If this doesn’t work, use the Web Access Client. Preliminary reports of this issue where clearing cache did not work involve Windows Vista and IE 7.
Problem:
Unable to access Web Access Client.
Resolution or Workaround:
Confirm that you are NOT using Safari browser. If you wish to use the Web Access Client, you must use IE or Firefox. If you use Safari and do not wish to change, use the Email Web Client.
Problem:
Eudora email client on Mac’s not sending or receiving mail.
Resolution or Workaround:
Use a supported email client such as MacMail or the Web Client. We are working with Department LAN Coords to find a solution, but initial research indicates that this client may not be supported by Oracle 10g.
Problem:
Unable to Create Distribution List in the Email Web Client.
Resolution or Workaround:
Add addresses to the personal address book and then create the distribution list.
Problem:
Web Access Client (WAC) timebar doesn't display early morning and late evening meetings.
Resolution or Workaround:
We are aware of this issue and working on the resolution. In the interim, the Oracle Calendar clients can be used to view early morning or late evening meetings.
Problem:
Web Access Client doesn't allow detailed message header information to be displayed.
Resolution or Workaround:
To view the display of detailed message header information, use the Email Web Client to set the option and the Email Web Client to view the message.
Problem:
Using the Web Access Client (WAC) on a Mac, attaching a file with a / (slash) in the Filename gets decoded to : (colon) when using a Mac.
When the recipient downloads the mail on a Mac, it fails to change the name of the file back to its original name that included the slash. The saved file has a strange filename making it hard for the end user to know which file was downloaded.
Resolution or Workaround:
Rename the file to a name that does not include a / (slash) in the filename before sending it.
Problem:
How does one find a class alias or departmental account in the Corporate Directory using the Web Access Client (WAC)?
Resolution or Workaround:
To locate alias or departmental account, enter a few characters from the name -- such as arch* -- in the search box with the search criteria of ALL or LASTNAME selected.
Problem:
Shared Distribution Lists don't appear to be working in the various Oracle email clients.
Resolution or Workaround:
The Contacts folder (or Address Book) that is found in Web Mail, the Web Access Client (WAC) and the Oracle Connector contain both individual contacts and distribution lists.
Although permissions can be set to share the Contacts folder with other users, the distribution lists in a shared Contacts folder cannot be used by the person you've granted permission to the folder.
This is an issue we are aware of and will be taken care of in a future release.
Problem:
After logging in to the WAC, recent messages are visible but older messages are missing.
Resolution or Workaround:
The Web Access Client (WAC) loads your most recent messages immediately upon login, and continues to download your older messages in the background. Your messages will continue to download until all of them have been received, or until the number of messages reaches a limit set by the system administrator.
Problem:
Tasks such as resizing panes, resizing columns, and scrolling through lists of messages, seem slow.
Resolution or Workaround:
Resizing and scrolling in the Web Access Client (WAC) window is very CPU-intensive. If you are using an older or slower computer, you may experience sluggish response. For optimal performance, use the old email web client. Oracle recommends a Pentium 4 2 GHz CPU or higher (PowerPC G4 1.33 GHz CPU or higher for Macintosh) with 512 MB RAM or more.
Problem:
When clicking on the launch button for the Web Access Client (WAC), nothing happens (or I get an error message).
Resolution or Workaround:
Make sure you are using a supported browser and that is has Javascript enabled and pop-up blocking disabled. You may also want to clear your browser's cache and try again.
