Oracle Collaboration Suite Terminology
This document provides definitions of the new Oracle applications and services that Cal Poly is implementing. Oracle Collaboration Suite (OCS) >This is the entire suite of collaboration products from Oracle and includes Oracle Email, Oracle Calendar, and Oracle CalendarSync. In the future, Cal Poly hopes to provide the campus community with Oracle Files, Oracle Web Conferencing, Oracle Voice Mail, and Oracle Fax. Oracle Collaboration Suite Web (OCS Web) >This is the Oracle suite of products that are accessed via a web browser. OCS Web includes Oracle Email, Oracle Calendaring, and Oracle Files. Oracle Email>This is the generic term used to describe the Oracle email service. Your email client provides access to the Oracle email service. Therefore, to accurately describe your email, use the term Oracle Email in conjunction with your email client. For example:
Oracle Connector for Outlook (OCFO) is an Oracle email application that provides added features in Outlook. Oracle Connector for Outlook can also be called Connector. For accuracy, use the term Oracle Connector for Outlook, Connector, or OCFO in conjunction with the version of Outlook you are using. For example:
Oracle CalendarThis is the generic term used to describe the Oracle calendar service. (The old calendar was called OpenTime.) Your calendar client provides access to the Oracle calendar service. Therefore, to accurately describe your calendar, use the term Oracle Calendar in conjunction with the calendar client and/or platform you are using. For example:
Oracle CalendarSyncOracle CalendarSync is the application used to sync your PDA with Oracle Calendar. (The old Sync was called CorpSync.) For accuracy, use the term Oracle CalendarSync in conjunction with the name of the PDA and/or platform you are using. Oracle CalendarSync has the same name in both Windows and Macintosh. For example:
Oracle FilesThis is the generic term used to describe the Oracle files application, which consolidates file and email servers. Cal Poly hopes to provide this application in the future. |
