Zimbra Collaboration Suite
Cal Poly employees and students will have new email and calendar services by the end of 2008. These new services, based on the Zimbra Collaboration Suite, are expected to reduce costs and improve reliability while adding collaboration tools and increasing storage for users. Information Technology Services worked with user groups across campus to evaluate and test alternatives.
Zimbra allows easy sharing of information among a user's email, calendar, and contact lists by using Zimbra's web client, and supported desktop clients such as Microsoft Office and Apple Mail. Zimbra can also be accessed from a wide range of other desktop clients and mobile devices.
ITS staff will be working over the next few months to determine the project timeline and prepare documentation and training for the move from Oracle Collaboration Suite to Zimbra. Questions about the Zimbra project can be sent to zimbraproject@calpoly.edu.
Cal Poly joins more than 300 schools -- including Stanford University, Texas A&M Eastern Illinois, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Georgia Tech -- in choosing Zimbra's integrated email, calendar, and collaboration solutions.
