Recovering From Email Performance Issues
- SMTP error message
- Close your email program, wait one full minute then restart it. Or restart your workstation.
- If you continue to receive the SMTP error message you can use the My Cal Poly Portal email client at http://my.calpoly.edu
- If you continue to have this problem contact the Service Desk at 756-7000.
- Same message delivered over and over again from a known email user. This is not the same problem as receiving multiple spam messages from unknown emailers. This is not a virus but a malfunction of the Outlook Outbox.
- Caused by sender's message stuck in their Outlook Outbox.
- To fix this issue the Sender must delete the message from their Outbox.
- Receiver should contact sender to let them know there is a problem
- Receiver should then group and delete all extra messages from that Sender or create a rule (or filter) to do this automatically.
- Multiple Spam messages - Huge numbers of Spam messages are being sent to you from off campus usually from an unknown sender. In some cases these messages are not even addressed to you.
- To fix this problem-Create a rule and delete messages from this Sender or group the messages by Subject, Sender or To and then do a group delete.
Instructions for creating rules and filters:
To get more information on creating and using rules and filters go to the Help within your email program and search on Rules or Filters.
